Summary

A beautifully crafted and unique three bedroom detached house of 1496 sq. ft (139 sq. m) situated off a quiet country lane in the charming village of Eastbridge. Originally a pair of Victorian brick cottages, Buttons was cleverly restored and extended by the current owners in 2016 to create a superbly configured and spacious home which exudes rural-chic style.

Full Description

The extended new façade of the house features a contemporary design with vertical larch cladding while the garden side of the house retains the original brick elevations overlooking a wonderful garden. Internally, the property is gracefully appointed with travertine limestone flagstone floors across the ground floor, with muted Farrow and Ball colours complimenting exposed timbers, two reception rooms, a charming dining area and a particularly large kitchen forming a central hub.  The lateral layout of the accommodation lends itself perfectly to family holiday living or indeed as a wonderful principal residence.

Upstairs a wide oak staircase leads to two good sized bedrooms (currently set up as a double and a twin), a family bathroom and a large master bedroom with its en-suite shower room. Outside, the pretty period brick elevation of the house (originally the front) overlooks the garden, hedged on two sides and mainly laid to lawn. A garden gate in the far corner leads out on to Chapel Road.

The property is approached from the lane via a shingle driveway with ample parking for two vehicles, where there is also a small brick outbuilding.

Buttons perfectly blends traditional with modern, and in doing so has sympathetically preserved the vestiges of its heritage while providing the practical requirements of a robust and stylish home.

Eastbridge is a small Suffolk village which borders the Minsmere River. Local facilities include the very well-respected Eels Foot Inn, popular with walkers and close to the Suffolk Heritage coastline and the RSPB Minsmere Reserve. The area has acres of marshland, meadows, heath and woodland and is a perfect spot for nature lovers, bird watchers, walkers and cyclists. The Suffolk coast and Minsmere bird reserve is only 1 ½ miles to the east and north respectively. Leiston (2 miles) and Saxmundham (5 miles) provide good local amenities including a Waitrose, Tesco, shops, schools and pubs. The seaside town of Aldeburgh is 5 miles to the south with the well-known Aldeburgh Festival and sailing on the River Alde. Snape Maltings, for music, is approximately 6 miles to the south and the county town of Ipswich 25 miles to the south with regular intercity trains to London's Liverpool Street Station.

Owner’s comment:

Having lived in the parish as a child, the chance to buy a property for renovation and then share the countryside of my childhood with my own children was a real privilege. We have really enjoyed our times at Buttons, it has been a true haven of peace and a great place to relax, the house has a fantastic atmosphere that everyone notices when they step inside. The whole family has enjoyed the long rambles through the beautiful countryside and the quick walk down to the pub, with torches in the winter as there is only one street light!
